Some conspiracy theorists think the Oscars are rigged. However, most people that make this claim are those whose favorite film of the year didn’t quite make it on the ballots. You rarely hear this kind of accusation from people who love Titanic or Return of the King (both of which have the most awards for a film in the Oscar’s history). Now, movies don’t just win Oscars on plot twists alone; otherwise M. Night Shyamalan films would be considered Oscar bait, but a little well-timed and unforeseen drama certainly doesn’t hurt.
