Meghan Markle has been slammed as a “villain of the year” by an LA based boutique who have also called her a “Montecito diva.”
The Duchess of Sussex appears in a gallery of “holiday hypocrites” that forms part of a scathing Christmas window display at trendy store Kitson. The department store, located in Robertson Blvd, between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, named Meghan as one of their 2025 villains along with California Governor Gavin Newsom, George Clooney and Katy Perry.
The “Holiday hypocrisy” window display is notorious in Los Angeles since it made its debut in 2020. Meghan features in a mocked-up magazine cover wearing a Santa hat that is branded with the slogan “Montecito diva.”
Meghan’s cover is also decorated with various headlines branding her and Harry the “most unpopular kids in school” because they are “disliked by Americans.” Another headline featured details how Meghan’s As Ever jam is made in a factory 2,000 miles from her home in California.
There is also a nod to the fact she wore $82,000 of jewellery on her Netflix holiday special, and a headline slamming her as a hypocrite because she “won’t let go of her royal status.”
Other stars featured in the window include pop star Katy Perry, whose cover is mainly about her new boyfriend Justin Trudeau. The display is not the first time the store has lashed out at the royals.
Following Harry and Meghan’s departure from the UK, they encouraged customers to pick their side in the row between the family members, by selling “Team Harry & Meghan” and “Team William & Kate” t-shirts for buyers to back their favorite royal couple in 2020.
Kitson owner Fraser Ross told the Daily Mail: “It started out with customers asking us if we had anything related to the young royals. They would go on to say why they favoured one couple over the other. There were literally people arguing on the floor with each other about it. I knew it was time to bring back the infamous ‘Team’ shirts.
“We have a large customer base, so it’s a good barometer to see who is more popular at the moment.” Team Kate & William were winning back in March.
Fraser explained, “They’re outselling Meghan & Harry two to one. Just like Team Aniston shirts did double the sales of Team Jolie. We got the shirts in shortly before ‘Megxit’ was announced, so it was pretty equal at the beginning. But post-Mexit, it sent the Cambridges surging way ahead of the Sussexes.”
Kitson also famously sold Team Aniston and Team Jolie shirts in 2005, surrounding Friends star Jennifer Aniston’s split from her husband at the time, Brad Pitt, as he sparked a new romance with Angelina Jolie.
