Amanda Seyfried has stood firm, refusing to apologize for her remarks about Charlie Kirk.
The 40-year-old actress labeled the right-wing activist as “hateful” on Instagram following his tragic shooting death at age 31 during a campus debate with students on September 10.
In an interview with Who What Wear magazine, she asserted: “I’m not f—— apologizing for that. I mean, for f—-‘s sake, I commented on one thing.
“I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course.”
However, in response to her initial comment, she posted a message reminding people of the importance of “nuance”.
“Can we agree on that at least?”
Now, in her recent interview, the Mamma Mia star clarified that she made the statement to ensure her words weren’t being misconstrued.
She added, “Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualised – which is what people do, of course.”
Meanwhile, Amanda maintained that she typically attempts to “stay out of drama”, expressing empathy for the level of scrutiny and backlash her co-star from The Housemaid, Sydney Sweeney, endures on social media platforms.
She confessed, “If social media were the way it is now when I was in my 20s, I don’t know how I would have fared.
“I stay out of drama. I try to stay out of the fray, but anywhere she goes, she’s in the fray, and that’s not necessarily up to her.”
