Kelly Osbourne has been reinforcing a message of resilience to internet trolls who’ve zeroed in on her appearance in the aftermath of her father Ozzy Osbourne’s death.
During Wednesday’s episode of “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” in which her mom, Sharon Osbourne, appeared as a guest, host Piers Morgan played back a recent social media clip of Kelly Osbourne responding to critics who she said have bashed her for her weight loss.
“To the people who keep thinking they’re being funny and mean by writing comments like ‘Are you ill,’ or ‘Get off Ozempic, you don’t look right.’ My dad just died, and I’m doing the best that I can, and the only thing I have to live for right now is my family,” the reality star, 41, said in the clip.
“And I choose to share my content with you and share the happy side of my life, not the miserable side of my life,” she continued. “So to all those people, ‘fuck off.’”
Morgan then asked Sharon Osbourne to share her thoughts on the critics who troll her daughter and others who are dealing with “unbearable grief.” He noted that 25 years ago, trolling “wouldn’t be possible” without social media.
“It’s a shield for people that are unhappy, it’s a shield … and jealousy and people’s perception of somebody else,” she replied.
Kelly Osbourne shared another pointed message for her haters in her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, People reports.
“First, I want to start by saying I received so many lovely, lovely, lovely comments from people that have really helped me get through this time in my life since losing my father,” she began.
The “One Word” musician then reflected on the “disgusting, horrible, mean, brutal comments” aimed at her.
“I’m just here … like, ‘What do you expect from me? What do you expect me to look like right now?’ The fact that I’m getting out of bed and facing my life and trying should be more than enough, and I should be commended for that,” she said.
She also said her critics “need to take a strong, hard look” at themselves, “because most of those things you say about me is how you feel about yourself.”
“For example, you say that I look ill. Well, I am ill right now. My life is completely flipped upside down. I don’t understand why people expect me to bounce back and look like everything is just fine in my life when it’s not,” she explained.
Before concluding her message, the TV personality said the thing that she finds “most disappointing” is that “most of the comments are coming from grown-ass women.”
“Women that say they’re counselors, women that are mothers, women who look like they have weight struggles of their own,” she declared. “And it’s absolutely devastating that women can’t support other women.”
