The 2026 Game Awards show wrapped up with a slew of world premieres, including the shockingly brutal cinematic trailer of Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios’ next project, Divinity, and a glimpse of a new Knights of the Old Republic spiritual successor.
Fighting game fans, who have already been eating well in recent years, were treated to a teaser of the upcoming live-action “Street Fighter” 2026 movie.
The movie stars Pensacola-native Roman Reigns as Akuma, a legendary antagonist in the series hellbent on mastering the Satsui no Hado and being the strongest warrior in the world.
Reigns joins an already stacked cast that features Jason Momoa as Blanka, 50 Cent (Curtis James Jackson) as Balrog, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Eric André as Don Sauvage and Cody Rhodes as Guile.
What is Roman Reigns connection with Pensacola?
Joe Anoa’i, better known as Roman Reigns, was born in Pensacola on May 25, 1985, where he was raised. He attended Pensacola Catholic High School for three years before transferring to Escambia High School during his senior year.
Reigns played high school football at both schools. The News Journal named Reigns “Defensive Player of the Year” during his senior year.
While Reigns no longer lives in Pensacola, he still considers the city his hometown.
“I’ve been lucky enough to perform (at) home a couple of times, if not three or four times, but it has been a while, so yeah, I’m so excited,” Reigns told the News Journal in a 2019 interview after he returned to wrestling.
Here’s the rest of the interview:
“With this job, you do a lot of shows and you just keep going and find yourself in new places. But it’s just something that’s so special about being at home. And like you said, I’m still billed from Pensacola, I was born and raised in Pensacola. No matter where I go I never forget where I’m from and I think that’s why if anybody ever asks how I am in real life, I like to think I’m a pretty laid back, grounded dude and that’s ’cause I’m from Pensacola. That’s just how we do it.
“The generation of people that were around me when I was growing up, that’s how we were. We had fun, we competed, we played all the sports. We were always at the beach. It was just a good upbringing, and I think that’s shown. And that’s why I’ve been so successful because people can trust in that I’ve been a good person and that reflects where I’ve come from.
“And so I’m so proud of Pensacola. That’s why I’ve said from day one, regardless of the character, ‘Hell no, I want to be billed out of Pensacola, Florida. I don’t care if it’s not a big city, that’s where I’m from, that’s what people need to know.
“So to be able to come back and do it again, it’s been a while. So it’s going to feel like a (WrestleMania) for me. I don’t get nerves much anymore but being able to be home, being in front of my close family and my close friends, people that saw me grow up, people that invested in me, a lot of people that had their hands in on grooming me to be the person I am today, there’s going to be a lot of people in that attendance that had a great deal to do with the man here today.”
