During the second episode of Taylor Swift’s End of an Era docuseries, Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine) summed up the star with one quote: “The persona is huge, but the person is soft.”
Describing the feeling of stepping onto the stage to join Swift for a surprise performance of their collaborative song “Florida!!!” off of The Tortured Poets Department, Welch marveled at the dichotomy of the person by her side, explaining, “Taylor is my friend, and I know her as this very cozy person, and I came out of that lift and I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s f-ing Taylor Swift!’”
This contrast was seen everywhere in the the docuseries, from the heartbreaking clips of a sparkly show-ready Swift crying after meeting the families of the young victims who were attacked at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party in Liverpool to her sweet post-show chat with her cats, still in the Midnights bodysuit.
Her wardrobe, too, highlighted this difference. While her Eras Tour costumes were full of sparkly Versace bodysuits, long ethereal dresses, and high Louboutin heels, her rehearsal looks were the complete opposite. They were cozy, to borrow Welch’s language.
From tan sweatpants to cropped T-shirts, she kept things simple during practice. And her shoe of choice was particularly a comfy option.
Swapping her red-bottomed stilettos for chunky soles, she stepped on stage in two different sandal slides. The first (see here), a brown monogrammed Louis Vuitton pair, featured velcro straps, gold hardware, and an anatomic insole for arch support. The second, courtesy of Bottega Veneta, were constructed from black leather with a slingback silhouette, braided detailing, and a treaded rubber sole (see here).
She paired the LVs with a Sandy Liang skort and Sézane tank for a transitional look to take her from practice to lunch (or, perhaps, to hand out $197 million in bonuses), and the Bottega Venetas with sweats, a gray tee, and her bioacetate Crap Eyewear sunglasses.
