EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian-American actor and filmmaker Shalom Obiago, the breakout lead of Prime Video’s original film Christmas in Lagos, has signed with Vault Entertainment for management.
Obiago stars as Elo in Christmas in Lagos, the first original feature to emerge from Prime Video’s inaugural overall filmmaker deal in Nigeria, after which Prime Video announced it would stop funding local original content in Africa and the Middle East. The film debuted globally last season, quickly climbing to No. 1 in Nigeria and charting in Prime Video’s Top 10 in multiple territories.
The film, released on December 20, 2023, held special meaning for Obiago, as it premiered just days before the anniversary of his father’s passing. “My father, Sam Obiago, was an actor himself, and losing him was devastating,” Obiago shared in an interview with The Atlanta Voice. “After he died, I dreamed of creating something connecting me to my roots. Christmas in Lagos became the realization of that dream.”
Known for his work across both Hollywood and Nollywood, Obiago has appeared in series including Atlanta on FX, BMF on Starz, The Black Hamptons on BET, and P-Valley. His lead performance in the short film Don’t Wipe Your Tears, executive produced by John ‘D.C. Young Fly’ Whitfield, earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Oscar-qualifying BronzeLens Film Festival in 2024.
