King Frederik
and Queen Mary have sent a message of support to the people of
Australian following the horrifying terror attack on Bondi Beach
Sunday.
The Danish king and queen wrote: “We and the people of Denmark are
profoundly saddened by the tragic news of the terror attack at
Bondi Beach today. We extend our deepest and most heartfelt
condolences to all those affected, their loved ones, the people of
Australia and the Jewish community.”
Queen Mary was born in Hobart, Tasmania, and was working in
Sydney when she met then-Crown Prince Frederik during the 2000
Summer Olympics. The royal couple regularly return to Australia to
visit with Queen Mary’s family there.
King Frederik and Queen Mary join
King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales in sharing
messages of support to the people of Australia.
King Charles wrote that he and Queen Camilla were “appalled
and saddened” by the news and commended the police and first
responders, and members of the public, who helped end the
attack.
“In times of hurt, Australians always rally together in
unity and resolve,” King Charles continued. “I know that
the spirit of community and love that shines so brightly in
Australia – and the light at the heart of the Chanukah Festival –
will always triumph over the darkness of such evil.”
William and Catherine, meanwhile,
shared that their thoughts “are with every Australian
today” and sent their deepest condolences to everyone affected
by the attack.
“We are also thinking about the bravery of the emergency
responders, particularly the two injured officers.”
Twelve people are confirmed dead following the terrorist attack
at Bondi Beach, which occurred during a public event to mark the
first day of Hannukah.
