Wonderverse at Oakbrook Center Mall closing in Dcember 2025 – NBC Chicago

An immersive “entertainment experience” at a busy suburban mall is shutting down just over a year after opening.

Wonderverse Oakbrook, which opened at the former Sears store at Oakbrook Center Mall, will close Dec. 22 “as the venue prepares to transition to a new concept,” a message posted by the organization to Facebook said.

“If you have Wonderverse Play Cards or certificates, we encourage you to redeem them thru December 21,” the message read. “We welcome you to come and enjoy our great food, service, arcade and immersive experiences up until that time!”

It wasn’t immediately clear why the experience was closing. Organizers did not respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.

The experience, from Sony Motion Pictures was a sprawling 45,000 square-foot space that hosted physical and virtual reality games, food and drink and themed installations from hit movies and franchises, including “Jumanji” and Ghostbusters.”

The enteratinment space also included the Commissary Restaurant, a full-service dining experience with a complete menu of food, desserts and cocktails.

“Dive into your favorite movies and TV shows with unique attractions and themed dining experiences,” a description on the Wonderverse Chicago website read. “Explore the Ghost Trap Speakeasy, get lost in the jungles of Jumanji in virtual reality, try to escape all three Uncharted rooms, win big in the arcade, and much more. Plus, don’t miss our weekly programming and live performances. Come experience the excitement firsthand!”

Visitors were encouraged to book tickets in advance.

Anyone that had credits left for the attraction are eligible for a refund to the original form of payment Wonderverse said. Requests must be sent to [email protected].

No further details about the closure were provided, or what the venue would transition to. Oakbrook Center did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
