Queen Silvia gathered all of her grandchildren at the Royal Palace in Stockholm on Monday to decorate the Christmas tree, marking one of the Swedish royal family’s most visible holiday traditions of the year. The palace shared a video of the special occasion to the royal family’s Instagram page, revealing the magnificent tree’s arrival and all the children buzzing around during the festivities.
At the center of the occasion was Princess Ines, the youngest of Queen Silvia’s grandchildren and the daughter of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia. Born on February 7, Princess Ines made one of her few public appearances since her christening earlier this year. A bit too young to hang decorations herself still, she was helped by her grandmother, who handed her a gold ornament to hold as the older children decorated the tree, as well as her cousin, Princess Estelle, the eldest child of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. The 13-year-old took an active role throughout the event and was often seen checking in on her younger cousin while everyone was trimming the tree.
Also present were Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s sons, Prince Alexander nine, Prince Gabriel, eight, and Prince Julian, four, along with Princess Madeleine’s three children, Princess Leonore, 11, Prince Nicolas, 10, and Princess Adrienne, eight.
It’s been a busy holiday season already for the Swedish royal household. Last week, the adults in the Swedish royal family stepped out in their finest gowns and tiaras for this year’s Nobel Prize ceremony and banquet in Stockholm. The King and Queen along with their three children Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine, and Prince Carl Philip attended, continuing the royals’ long association with the annual gathering.
