Ariana Grande made her third appearance as a host for Saturday Night Live on December 20, an episode that also bid farewell to cast member Bowen Yang. Yang and Grande are good friends who have also worked together on the set of Wicked, so the evening provided plenty of laughs as well as poignant moments.
Grande also sang, of course. To end her monologue, the star did a parody of Mariah Carey’s iconic holiday tune “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” changing the lyrics to, “I don’t know what to get for Christmas / For my cousin’s boyfriend Steve / I don’t know a thing about him / Only see him on Christmas Eve” and “Is a gift card rude? / What do I get for Christmas for this dude?”
The actual musical guest for the big night was Cher, who joined Grande and Yang for a sketch in which Yang played a retiring Delta Air Lines club attendant. The trio sang “Please Come Home For Christmas” together, making the comedian tear up.
Of course, Grande got to show off her acting chops and comedic timing in a number of non-musical sketches as well. In a take on Home Alone, Grande played Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin, finally reunited with his family. Unfortunately, he didn’t disengage all his booby traps and things take a turn.
In a sketch parodying popular reality show Love is Blind, Grande ends up falling for the actual Grinch, sight unseen. At the show’s reunion, they seem to be doing their best to make it work.
And in “Dancing 101,” Grande was paired with Marcello Hernández for a sketch about dance teachers with some questionable views on vaccination. Grande gets to dance and deadpan—until she can’t help but break.
