Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently renamed their non-profit organisation, Archewell Foundation, as Archewell Philanthropies on its fifth anniversary. With this change, the royal couple is hoping their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will be part of the long-term philanthropic work that they believe in. However, an expert believes that the Sessexes are “clinging on” to their royal status with this move.

Experts decode Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new move for Archewell Foundation

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have renamed their organization from Archewell Foundation to Archewell Philanthropies. The move has been made in the hope of letting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “broaden their global philanthropic efforts as a family, with meaningful reach and maximum impact, grounded in the same values, partnerships, and their commitment to show up and do good,” the organization said in an announcement, per Mirror.

The Sussexes also hinted that their two kids will also be part of their work in the long term. “After five beautiful years, the Archewell Foundation is becoming Archewell Philanthropies. This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavors as a family,” read the message on their website.

However, communications expert Judi James believes that with this move, the royal couple are “clinging on” to their royal status, amid claims that Prince William could strip them of their titles when he becomes the next monarch.

“There is a star-role reference to their royal titles which, given speculation about them being removed, reads like a very emphatic clinging or laying claim to,” noted James.

Moreover, the expert believes their mission statement is also a way of “perhaps informing the fans that when the Sussexes are visible they should assume to be doing good, somewhat in the style of superheroes.”

While Jennie Bond, former royal editor at the BBC, told the outlet that he “don’t think it’s a very good idea to change the name of a charity after just five years” as “it takes a long time for a charity to get embedded in people’s minds.”
