Kate Hudson got into Neil Diamond’s music through ‘Song Sung Blue’
Kate Hudson got to explore new music choices after collaborating with Neil Diamond on Song Sung Blue.
The Oscar-nominated actress admitted that Diamond “wasn’t someone whom I grew up with, so it was a nice discovery for me to get to know his music.”
Taking on the role of Claire Sardina meant immersing herself in Diamond’s catalogue, as Hudson portrays one half of the real-life couple who channelled their love for the legendary singer into a tribute act they launched in the late 1980s.
Song Sung Blue stars Hudson alongside Hugh Jackman as Claire and Mike Sardina, better known on stage as Milwaukee-based duo Lightning & Thunder, with the pair performing several of Diamond’s most recognisable tracks throughout the film.
Reflecting on the experience, Hudson said anchoring the story in Diamond’s music brought an added emotional depth to the project, calling it a rewarding way to honour two devoted fans.
She added that watching the finished film left her uplifted, describing it as fun, heartfelt, and the kind of movie that leaves audiences energised long after the credits roll.
“I love that it lacks cynicism. There’s something really pure about this movie,” Hudson said. “It delivers something unexpected to an audience.”
