Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle could be set to make some staff members of their charity redundant after a new restructure, it has been revealed. Since quitting royal life in 2020, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have put a lot of their work efforts towards their charity Archewell Foundation, which was formed in 2020.
However, just days ago it was confirmed that the charity will be rebranded as Archewell Philanthropies. It will also take a different approach, and rather than run its own programmes to help those worldwide, it will help fund programmes and projects run by other charities.
This will help the couple and their organisation continue to help with causes close to their hearts.
It will also mean that the organisation will have a different way of working, which will result in less staff members needed.
This means that redundancies are likely to be on the way, especially for junior roles.
In a statement released to Newsweek, a Sussex spokesperson said: “The move toward a philanthropic fiscal sponsor operating model, does mean that some staff redundancies are inevitable, particularly with junior admin roles.
“We will not be discussing these personnel details further, other than to say that we are honoured to have worked with incredibly talented and caring people who dedicate themselves to helping others.”
On the website of their rebranded organisation Archewell Philanthropies, a statement explains why the renaming of the organisation is happening.
It reads: “Archewell Philanthropies is home to the charitable work of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they broaden their global philanthropic efforts for meaningful reach and maximum impact.
“After five beautiful years, the Archewell Foundation is becoming Archewell Philanthropies. This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavors as a family.”
