Joe Rogan does not approve of President Donald Trump’s comments surrounding Rob Reiner’s death.
“The Rob Reiner thing is not funny. When you see it with no empathy, it’s hard to like,” Rogan, 58, said on the Thursday, December 25, episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. “There’s no justification for what he did that makes any sense in a compassionate society. It’s no different than people that were celebrating when Charlie Kirk got shot. It’s the same kind of thing.”
Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood, California, home on December 14. The following day, Us Weekly confirmed that the couple’s son Nick Reiner had been arrested.
Nick has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He has not entered a plea, but has hired powerhouse attorney Alan Jackson. His arraignment was continued until January 7, 2026.
On December 15, Trump, 79, spoke out about Rob’s death in a controversial Truth Social post.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” he wrote. “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
During his podcast episode, Rogan — along with guest Shane Gillis — imagined what would have happened if former President Barack Obama spoke the way Trump did after the death of a Hollywood star.
“Imagine if Obama tweeted something about someone after they died in this way, that this person was a deranged person that hated Obama,” Rogan imagined. “It just shows you how crazy it is, the way Trump thinks and talks. It’s just like the guy got sliced up by his kid, you know? Anybody that doesn’t see that and go, ‘F***, man.’”

While Gillis, 38, said he wishes Trump “could apologize,” he and Rogan agreed the current president wouldn’t.
“It’s so dark,” Rogan added. “The Rob Reiner thing was crazy because Rob Reiner made it a mission to try and get Trump out of office.”
During a 2017 interview with Variety, Rob described Trump as “the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States.”
“He is mentally unfit,” Rob added. “Not only does he not understand how government works, he has no interest in trying to find out how it works.”

Although several Republican officials and Hollywood stars criticized Trump’s Truth Social post soon after it went live, the politician doubled down on his comments while addressing the media on December 15.
“Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all,” he said. “He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.”
Trump added that he believed Rob was “bad for our country” as the director was outspoken against the administration.
