A band from a Dallas suburb and horses from a Central Texas army post will march in the iconic Rose Parade on New Year’s Day.
The Allen Eagle Escadrille from Allen High School, which is one of the largest high school bands in the country, will be among several performing bands from across the states.
The other Texas participant is the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment from Fort Hood. The post, previously known as Fort Cavazos, is located near Killeen, and parade duty is part of detachment members’ responsibilities.
The Rose Parade is in its 137th year of kicking off the Rose Bowl Game, which pits Alabama against Indiana this year. Basketball Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson will serve as grand marshal.
