The New Year is upon us, but there are plenty of ways to begin 2026 with the community, with royal country music lineage, dancing or simply relaxing with a good book.
1. Wassail at 5 Porch Farm
The new year makes way for new beginnings and opportunities to celebrate beyond the fireworks and confetti at 5 Porch Farm’s inaugural Wassail.
Wassail is an English tradition meaning “be in good health,” with a focus on nature and the new year.
5 Porch Farm is located at 5035 Smith Farm Lane (4830 Ash Hill Road for GPS).
Activities will include walking throughout the farm, caroling to the orchard and animals while enjoying a nice cup of mulled cider.
The 5 Porch Farm Wassail event will run from 1-4 p.m. Saturday (weather permitting) and is free to attend.
2. Twitty & Lynn at The Mulehouse
Some people have country music in their blood, and for Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty, it’s quite literal.
The grandchildren of famed country duo Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty will grace the stage at The Mulehouse starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The event will be one part concert, along with a blend of storytelling.
“The torch has been passed to the next generation – to Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty,” a press release states.
“It’s a must-see show with Tayla and Tre delivering their iconic grandparents super hits. Along with stories behind the songs, Tayla will bring on the laughs and sometimes the tears with her stories about traveling on the road with her Memaw, and how Loretta was inspired to pencil those words from her heart onto a yellow legal pad and spin them into country gold. Tre Twitty is Conway’s grandson and with his smooth style and delivery you’ll feel that his Poppy is right back on that stage.”

3. Country Dance Night at The Mulehouse
The Mulehouse will also be the venue to cut a rug with the foot-stomping Urban Cowboy Line Dancers, who will bring their popular line dancing night to Columbia on Friday.
No experience is needed, just an interest and passion to dive into the Southern rhythm styles with trained instructors and other dance enthusiasts.
The event will run from 7:30-10 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $18.50 and available at www.TheMulehouse.com or by calling (931) 490-9400.
4. Silent Book Club at The Factory
Round out the weekend with a calm, chill gathering at The Factory at Columbia, 101 James M. Campbell Blvd.
The Factory will host a Silent Book Club Haven meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
The setup is simply to show up, order a drink and sit silently for an hour with others while you read.
Afterwards, a group photo will be taken with time to socialize and discuss your Sunday sharing the love of literature with others.
5. Live entertainment
Chief Smiley Ricks and the C-Town Specials will perform at Daniel’s Barber Shop on the Square starting at 6 p.m. Friday.
Aaron Sizemore Band will perform at McCreary’s Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Friday.
DJ C-Dub will perform at Society American Nosherie, 2 Public Square in Lawrenceburg, starting at 8 p.m. Friday.
Tom Saffell & Robert Johnson will perform at McCreary’s Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.
