Meghan Markle has been dealt an embarrassing blow as she prepares to make her return to acting after an eight-year hiatus. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is set to appear in Close Personal Friends, an upcoming feature film starring Lily Collins, alongside Brie Larson and Jack Quaid. This will be her first acting role since she left her role as Rachel Zane on Suits to marry Prince Harry.
The plot is being kept mostly under wraps, but it has been confirmed that it revolves around a couple who befriend a celebrity couple while on a trip to Santa Barbara. A release date for the film is yet to be confirmed. But it seems that Meghan has sparked a reaction on set, as a source told Radar Online that she is off to a shaky start, with one person sharing their surprise at how “tentative” she seemed, despite there being “no hostility” towards her on set.
Others commented on Meghan’s acting abilities, as one person said: “There was a lot of curiosity about how she would read on camera after so many years away. The genuine response was one of surprise, but unfortunately not a positive one in the end, as the performance came across as rigid and overly aware of itself.”
The insider added: “There are jokes going around that, by comparison, it is so wooden it will make Kim Kardashian’s acting seem almost awards-level.”
The comment comes after Kim Kardashian‘s role in Ryan Murphy’s legal drama All’s Fair, which aired on Disney. It also features Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson and Naomi Watts.
Before Meghan landed her part on Suits, her CV was modest, as she had small roles in a number of romantic comedies, as well as parts in CSI: NY and General Hospital.
Another person on set noted how clear it was that Meghan had less acting experience than her other co-stars. They said: “It was clear she wanted to make a point by taking on the role, but acting is something that needs constant practice, and she has been away from it for a long time.
“Next to experienced actors, the gap was hard to miss.”
