As we enter the new year and the winter weather grips the Kansas City area, entertainment options tend to become somewhat scarce. The schedule isn’t totally bereft of events, however, and many are of the family-friendly variety.

In fact, there will be musical events, plays and more things to do for children and parents every weekend for the next two months.

Here are nine family-friendly entertainment options for January and February.

Monster Jam

Drivers show off their skills in their monster trucks. It’ll be at 6 p.m. Jan. 9; noon and 6 p.m. Jan. 10; noon Jan. 11; T-Mobile Center ($30.93-$69.62). t-mobilecenter.com

‘Jungle Book’

This is a new adaptation of the Mowgli stories with original music. 7 p.m. Jan. 17, 2 p.m. Jan. 18, Polsky Theatre ($10-$20). jccc.edu/midwest-trust-center

Disney on Ice: ‘Road Trip Adventures’

Mickey Mouse and friends travel to iconic Disney destinations. 7 p.m. Jan. 22; 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23; 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Jan. 24; 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan.-25; T-Mobile Center ($30.93-$43.83). t-mobilecenter.com

Kansas City Symphony, ‘Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark’ in Concert

The symphony performs John Williams’ legendary score live as the 1981 film classic plays on the big screen. 7 p.m. Jan. 22-24; 2 p.m. Jan. 25; Kauffman Center ($55-$160). kcsymphony.org

‘The Drum Closet’

A Coterie world premiere, this play is about two young, drum-loving Nigerian-American brothers who learn to survive at a Midwestern high school. Opens 9:45 a.m. Jan. 28; runs through Feb. 22; Coterie ($16.75-$21,75). thecoterie.org

‘The Fantasticks’

This 1960 musical, probably most suitable for older children, follows a young couple and their meddlesome fathers. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5-7; 2 p.m. Feb. 8; 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12-14; 2 p.m. Feb. 15; 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19-20; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21; 2 p.m. Feb. 22; MTH Theater at Crown Center ($55-$67). musictheaterheritage.com

‘Dog Man: The Musical’

Dog Man, who has the head of a dog and the body of a policeman, fights crime and chews on furniture. Postponed from October because of vandalism at the Folly. 2 and 5 p.m. Feb. 15, Folly ($51-$56). follytheater.org

Kansas City Symphony, ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ in Concert

The symphony performs another John Williams score while the second “Harry Potter” movie plays. 7 p.m. Feb. 19-21; 2 p.m. Feb. 22; Kauffman Center ($80-$175). kcsymphony.org

Kansas City Ballet Second Company, ‘Snow White’

The Kansas City Ballet’s Family Series presents an hourlong, narrated version of “Snow White.” 7 p.m. Feb. 27; 11 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Feb. 28; noon and 3:30 p.m. March 1; Folly ($15-$115). kcballet.org
