Like Jacek, my mind is on The White Lotus, but unlike Jacek, I lovvvveeee the shoulder flaps. I’m not going to speak for Lainey, but I want her opinion, too. And it got me thinking of the character Michelle Monaghan plays, who is very male-centered. She is fretting about her husband even though she was supposed to be no-contact with him due to the no-phone rule. The prolonged and challenging eye contact with the women at the club. Resisting giving up the table at the club when there was a fuss, showing she’s territorial. And the way she is underhanded about cheering on her friend when it was clear she was going to hook up with the Russian butler and she plays that up right until the last minute – it seems she’s done this before.

I read this US Weekly story with interest not because I think Blake and Ryan’s marriage is in trouble, but because it is not a stretch to say they are under pressure. The article is pretty nuanced, it doesn’t come down hard on them but also doesn’t present life as super peachy.
Dan Wakeford took the helm at US Weekly a year ago this month and the quality change is obvious. He comes from PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly so he understands the way to hook a reader in, but I’m finding the reporting pretty grounded at the same time. We need a spacecraft between PR sanctioned PEOPLE stories and the lower-tier tabloids.
Hailey Bieber is reportedly considering legal action against content creators for alleging she stalked her husband (whom she has been married to for years and has a baby). I didn’t want to click the video and get that in my algorithm but there’s a very popular “investigation” out right now that uses a Selena Gomez song as “proof” of said stalking. The ironic thing is, Selena didn’t write the song and as many have pointed out, it was a Normani song. This isn’t unusual in the world of pop music and I found stories about the Normani demo from years ago. It hurts my head that this is the gossip level people are accepting.
Cate Blanchett recently shared her views on leaf blowers (she hates them) and just dropped a new nugget on Las Culturistas: award shows shouldn’t be televised. I think we know this is completely unrealistic as the Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys are very embedded in pop culture, but I understand her sentiment that actors are always on camera and in the public eye, so why not take a night off to celebrate the work. But, Cate is really private. I don’t know if all of her peers would agree they want to receive their award without a camera tracking them. And the chance to give a speech that millions of people will see. Let’s face it, most of them love that part.
