The Duff Beer mascot has been retired from “The Simpsons” after nearly 30 years on the animated series.
Duffman made his final appearance in a recent episode titled “Seperance,” a parody of the Apple TV show “Severance,” according to TVLine. The character visited the Simpson family to announce his exit from the Duff Corporation.
“The Duff Corporation has, uh, retired that character forever,” the former mascot, whose civilian name is Barry Duffman, told the family. “All the old forms of advertising are now passé. Corporate spokesmen, print ads, TV spots—today’s kids can’t even sing the jingles.”
The character now works as a representative for a company called Enthusiasm on Demand.
Duffman first appeared in the 1997 episode “The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson” and became a recurring fan favorite known for his signature “Oh, yeah!” catchphrase, according to Parade.
The retirement marks the second character departure in recent months. Two months earlier, the show wrote off First Church Organist Alice Glick after 35 seasons, according to PEOPLE.
“In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made,” Executive Producer Tim Long told PEOPLE. “But in another, more important sense, yep she’s dead as a doornail.”
