Season 8 of “The Rookie” kicks off in Prague, and one cast member fell ill while filming in the Czech capital.
Series star Nathan Fillion (John Nolan) told People that while he and his costars had an “incredible time” shooting abroad, Bridget Regan (Monica Stevens) got food poisoning and “spent a little time in the hospital.”
Regan reflected on the harrowing experience in a statement shared with Entertainment Weekly.
“Working in Prague on ‘The Rookie’ was extraordinary, though I was a bit unlucky and got hit with some truly nasty food poisoning. Thanks to the incredible care of the hospital staff in Prague, our phenomenal on-set medic, and a whole lot of fluids and meds, I was patched up enough to get back on my feet,” the actress said.
Regan noted that she felt “deeply looked after” during her time in Prague and thanked Fillion and Jenna Dewan, who plays Fillion’s wife Bailey Nune, for “being so kind, generous and supportive.”
“The ‘Rookie’ family is a family in every sense,” Regan added.
Season 8 of “The Rookie” premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The police procedural focuses on Fillion’s character, who joins the Los Angeles Police Department in his 40s after going through a divorce.
Regan has portrayed attorney/criminal Monica Stevens since season 5. Last season, Monica secured an immunity deal that involves helping the LAPD. Fillion told People that it “frustrates Nolan to no end” that he has to work with “someone so criminal” and “so smug.”

“There’s a sense of, ‘You can’t get rid of me,’ and, ‘I’m untouchable and now I have an immunity deal, so you can’t do anything about it.’ And we essentially, in the first episode, are babysitting her,” he shared. “The story line is we have to go to make sure she does what she’s supposed to do and help us here, which of course goes wrong in lots of different ways.”
“The Rookie” also stars Alyssa Diaz (Angela Lopez), Richard T. Jones (Wade Grey), Melissa O’Neil (Lucy Chen), Eric Winter (Tim Bradford), Mekia Cox (Nyla Harper), Shawn Ashmore (Wesley Evers), Lisseth Chavez (Celina Juarez) and Deric Augustine (Miles Penn).
Season 8 of “The Rookie” premieres on ABC on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 10 p.m. ET. Episodes are available to stream on Hulu the day after they air.
