Remember how it went in 2025? The first half of the year was all celebrity splits, which then turned into the summer of celebrity love. Wonder if 2026 will be a repeat because we’re starting with a breakup: PEOPLE has the exclusive today that Ali Wong and Bill Hader are over. It’s amicable, nothing messy, they remain friends, and this is mostly about scheduling with Ali on tour and Bill committed to multiple film and television projects. Which TikTok might not believe but if you are anywhere near Ali and Bill’s age, and are divorced or know people who are divorced, this is pretty ordinary. Not the sexiest gossip but definitely relatable. At least from the coparenting perspective.
Coparenting comes with its challenges and even when it’s working well, it’s still hard because coparenting doesn’t just affect the family unit, it’s about the impact of the family unit – which is the priority, obviously – on other relationships. One of the keys to a relatively pleasant divorced life – that is, exes who have found a way to get on with each other to the benefit of their children – is schedule respect. Whether it’s every other week or weekend or every few days on and off, adhering to coparenting schedules is paramount to harmony. Schedules are planned and agreed upon in advance, ample heads-up is given when possible, and then everything, from new romance to friend hangs to travel and work and etc, is built around that. The common source of conflict, at least from the divorced people in my orbit, where divorced couples are concerned, is schedule change: last minute switch requests, demands for more or less, it doesn’t even have to be a major adjustment, scheduling can be a trigger…
And here we have two very busy, very successful people with their own respective coparenting schedules also trying to carve out a schedule for themselves – I’ve bystanded several of these situations and it’s a delicate, often frustrating, often complicated dance. So it makes all the sense to me that, for now, Ali and Bill don’t want to dance. And this is sad, because obviously everyone wants to have love in their lives. But this is the feedback I’ve heard from people in these conundrums is that it’s not talked about it, and it’s a reality for many – not all but many – divorced people who are navigating post-marriage relationships, even those in Hollywood.
