Jodie Foster burst into laughter after committing a cardinal sin during her appearance on the “Today” show on Tuesday.
Foster is currently making the press rounds to promote her first French film, called “A Private Life.”
The actor, who is fluent in French, showed off her language skills during a segment with “Today” host Craig Melvin, but things derailed just as the interview was wrapping up.
“Since we’re speaking French, I want you to help me go to the tease in French,” Melvin said. “Can we say something like ‘This is Today on NBC in French?’”
As Foster began to teach him how to say the request.
But just as Foster was wrapping up, she accidentally said “CBS” instead of “NBC.”
“No ― not CBS! NBC! Jodie!” Melvin shouted jokingly, as Foster burst into a fit of giggles.
“It’s the same letters!” Foster said (it’s not), but Melvin wasn’t having it.
“It’s a stupid network, Jodie!” Melvin quipped, before declaring that the interview “was going so well” prior to the slip-up.
While Foster tried to insist that they could cut the flub from the segment, Melvin reminded her, “It’s live!”
Watch the flub unfold below:
Earlier in the interview, Foster said that she is fluent due to her late mother, who not only insisted that she learn the language, but predicted that she would one day be a French actor.
“She went to France on one of those bus trips and came back and said, ’That’s it. You’re going to learn French, you’re going to go to French school ― someday you’ll be a French actor living in France,” Foster shared. “That was her dream for me and for herself.”
