Meghan Markle could reportedly find herself in an “awkward position” following the latest update regarding her husband, Prince Harry’s security in the UK, a royal expert has claimed. The Duke of Sussex’s threat level in the UK is being reassessed by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) in what was seen as a major U-turn by the Home Office.
Harry received downgraded security after he quit the Royal Family in 2020 but has disputed the Home Office’s decision. Last year, he lost his legal challenge against them, but new reports claimed that his team is highly optimistic about the outcome of Ravec’s new assessment.
However, a victory regarding his security could mean that Harry would visit the UK more frequently than he used to.
His wife has not set foot in the country since 2022, and sources close to her have made clear that she does not wish to change that. Now, royal author Christopher Andersen claimed that the latest update regarding Prince Harry could provide a fresh headache for the Duchess.
He told Us Weekly: “This [update] puts Meghan in a rather awkward position, since I really don’t think she is eager to return to what she sees as a somewhat hostile environment.”
However, he said that if Harry had his security reinstated, it could be a huge boost for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s relationship with the King, which itself could provide significant motivation for any kind of return.
He explained: “If Harry and Meghan do return to London with Archie and Lilibet, it will be so the children can begin to forge some sort of real relationship with their grandfather, the King.
“Charles is a huge softy when it comes to his grandkids, so I’m sure they’d be welcomed with open arms.”
Harry and Meghan last travelled to the UK together in September 2022, to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Duke made a number of trip to his home country since then, however, he did so without his wife.
In 2025, Harry only met up with his father once, in September, when he travelled to England to attend various engagements linked to his charities.
