Gina Carano and Disney have settled the lawsuit, funded by Elon Musk, over her firing from The Mandalorian. 

I’m sure Sarah has insights into the impact but it reminded me of the last time I was at Disneyland and a guy was wearing a shirt that said, “Gina Carano did nothing wrong.” And I thought how interesting that he paid $100+ a ticket, directly to Disney, to show off that shirt. 

Sarah beat me to The Paper this morning but I want to note that Domhnall Gleeson starred in a TV show with a strong start and the worst finish I’ve ever seen (Run). Shockingly bad – and I think HBO-whatever removed it from streaming? I agree with Sarah in that there’s something about the tone of The Paper that feels dated. (To be fair, who could have predicted the American version of The Office would be so beloved? It was a huge risk at the time.) 

My two cents on why The Paper will be tricky to pull off is the type of business: Dunder Mifflin was a paper company, an industry most people hadn’t heard of and didn’t particularly care about. The shadow was big box stores like Staples and Office Depot (which have now been eaten up by online retailers). Dunder Mifflin was like Blockbuster or RadioShack. The issue with turning it into a newspaper and the “haha this job is so futile” is that newspapers dying is not inevitable, it’s a cause for alarm. The job is still important, it has just been devalued by society. Newspapers are a community service in many ways, whereas Dunder Mifflin was a typical office job sealed in from the world so the employee relationships drove the storylines and the influence of the outside world was negligible, save for the occasional office lunch at Hooters.

The Mom Wars of the early aughts are OVER, we are not falling for it. The only thing I would like to note is that their dad’s “I’m Loving It’ jingle probably paid for a few toys. Badabababa.

Tobey Maguire responded to his ex’s divorce petition, asking for 50/50 custody of their son Otis (I believe Ruby is over 18). Jennifer Meyers filed five years ago, he’s responding now. People are making all kinds of assumptions about his response (I read an insta comment that said he’s only interested now because his son is an older teenager??) and this is when gossip assumptions make people look foolish. They have been happily coparenting for years, are close friends and are still very integrated. The reason the paperwork is moving along is more likely due to her engagement. Having a custody arrangement papered does not mean there are issues, it can just be a peace-of-mind move.
