Bobby Cannavale, two-time Emmy award-winning actor, won’t be walking the red carpet with his longtime partner, actress Rose Byrne, at 83rd Golden Globes on Sunday.
Instead, he’ll be spending time with reptiles in his home state of New Jersey. Really.
Cannavale, who was born and raised in Union City, began dating Byrne in 2012. The couple share two sons — Rocco, 9 and Rafael, 8 — though they have yet to tie the knot, People.com reported.
Byrne is up Sunday for Best Actress in a Comedy for her performance in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
But before heading to the West Coast for the cermony, Byrne spoke with “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon on Thursday and revealed why Cannavale won’t be accompanying her to “Hollywood’s Party of the Year.”
“You know what, Bobby can’t come, which is such a bummer,” Byrne told Fallon during the late-night show. “He’s going to a reptile expo in New Jersey.”
That appears to be Reptilecon, held this weekend at the Super Pet Expo at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison.
Byrne explained that she, Cannavale and their two sons want to adopt a bearded dragon, a lizard native to Australia.
“This expo is the place where everyone goes, and it’s the place to go, and it was on the same day,” Byrne explained to a stunned Fallon. “And it would just be such a parent fail so we’re doing it. I’m on board for the dragon, it’s going to be great. … He’s doing God’s work.”
The Golden Globes will air live on CBS and Paramount+, on Sunday, Jan. 11, 8-11 p.m., at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
In the film, Byrne portrays Linda, a psychotherapist on the verge of breakdown, who is trying to manage various problems in her personal and professional life, according to IMDb.
Fellow actresses also nominated in the category include Amanda Seyfried for the musical drama “The Testament of Ann Lee,” Chase Infiniti for drama thriller “One Battle After Another,” Cynthia Erivo for the fantasy musical “Wicked: For Good,” Emma Stone for sci-fi drama “Bugonia,” and Kate Hudson for musical biopic “Song Sung Blue.”
