Leonardo DiCaprio reacts to jab about much younger girlfriends – NBC Connecticut

Nikki Glaser went for the low-hanging fruit at the 2026 Golden Globes.

That is, she made a joke about Leonardo DiCaprio dating much younger women. But, you see, she had to. (See every star in their orbit on the Golden Globes red carpet.)

“It’s insane, so vaping good,” Glaser, hosting the Globes for the second straight year Jan. 11 at the Beverly Hilton, said of DiCaprio’s nominated performance in “One Battle After Another.” “What a career you’ve had. I mean, countless iconic performances, you’ve worked with every great director. You’ve won three Golden Globes, an Oscar.”

“And the most impressive thing,” she noted, “is that you were able to accomplish all of that before your girlfriend turned 30. I mean, it’s just insane.”

The 51-year-old laughed and nodded in agreement, no stranger to such a quip. Meanwhile, though he was recently vacationing with Vittoria Ceretti in St. Barts, his 27-year-old girlfriend was not with him this evening.

“Leo, I’m sorry I made that joke, it’s cheap, I tried not to,” Glaser said of going that well-trodden route. “But we don’t know anything else about you, man. There’s nothing else… I searched, the most in-depth interview you’ve ever given was in Teen Beat in 1991. Is your favorite food still ‘pasta, pasta and more pasta’?”

Yeah, he mouthed from his table, giving a thumbs-up, it sure is.

Moving on, Glaser couldn’t not mention Timothée Chalamet.

While the comedian, as promised, didn’t “go hard” on his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, though the couple being the topic of non-movie-related conversation as awards season kicks into high gear seemingly bore mentioning.

Chalamet is nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy for “Marty Supreme.” The film, about a relentlessly self-confident table tennis hustler, is also nominated for Best Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy, while co-writers Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein are up for Best Screenplay.

“What a dedicated performance you gave,” Glaser praised Chalamet, calling him “the first actor in history to put on muscle for a movie about ping pong. He gained over 60 ounces, it’s insane.”

As for the comedy white whale that is cracking a successful joke about Julia Roberts, a Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, nominee for “After the Hunt,” Glaser did manage to land one, sort of.

“Just like ‘Wicked,’ I’m back for a sequel,” Glaser kicked off her monologue announcing her return to the show by popular demand. “Just like ‘Frankenstein’ I’ve been pieced together by an unlicensed European surgeon. Just like the podcasters nominated tonight, I should not be allowed to be this close to Julia Roberts.”

The movie star did flash her signature smile.

After her widely praised hosting job last year, Glaser knew she had her work cut out for her when it comes to toeing the line between funny, topical and cheeky and not leaving any (or at least most) of the stars in the room with a bad taste in their mouths.

“You have to be very delicate about making jokes that aren’t going to ruin anyone’s night,” the 41-year-old explained to CBS Mornings’ Gayle King ahead of the Globes, which is airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. “But you also want to give the people at home something to laugh at, and you want to poke fun at the people that they’re dying for you to make fun of. People at home want you to make fun of the A-listers.”
