Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston has admitted he would be thrilled to join the cast of Celebrity Traitors or Strictly Come Dancing, saying he’s a self-confessed fan of both shows.
The 44-year-old British actor is best known for playing Loki in Marvel’s Thor, and more recently as the star of the BBC’s The Night Manager.
As reported by The Sun newspaper, when asked if he would consider joining Strictly or Traitors, Tom enthusiastically responded: “Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I’m a massive, massive fan of both.” For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.
An insider told the publication: “It is frankly the ultimate decision. Of course, Tom’s schedule is more likely to allow him to film The Traitors for a month in Scotland than commit to Strictly’s intense four months, but what an absolute gift to his BBC bosses to hear their leading man is up for both.”
In previous discussions about The Traitors, Tom revealed he would prefer to play a faithful – the group responsible for identifying the traitors among them – as it would allow him to “play detective” and maintain a “clean” conscience.
During a stint on BBC Radio 2, he enthused: “I mean the celebrity one would be amazing.
“I think the whole show, the format is just the most ingenious thing, isn’t it? It’s completely compulsive. Maybe the best television I’ve ever seen.”
Tom concluded: “I’d like to be a faithful because then you can play detective, right?”.
“And you know that your conscience is clean and your heart is pure, and you’re just watching and trying to figure people out.
“‘If you’re a traitor it’s more of an acting exercise, right? It’s a game, you have to keep deceiving and cloaking and dissembling and basically lying to people.
“It would be interesting though. I don’t know, I think being a faithful would be more of a curiosity scratcher somehow.”
According to The Sun, Tom also discussed watching The Celebrity Traitors – which was broadcast in Britain during the autumn – at a recent question-and-answer event in New York, where he likened the programme’s finale to the Super Bowl.
He remarked: “There was a version of it with celebrities in the UK in the autumn – it was massive. I mean, this extraordinary thing, it united the entire nation.
“I think 11 million people, which is a lot in the UK, watched the finale live. It was like a kind of a sporting event, like a World Cup final or a Super Bowl or something.”
