The following is a calendar of community events in the Baton Rouge area from Friday through Thursday, Jan. 22.​

FRIDAY-SATURDAY

EVENING SKY VIEWING: 8:30 p.m.-10 p.m., BREC Highland Road Park Observatory, 13800 Highland Road. See the majesty of the night sky in these public viewings for those 6 and up. hrpo.lsu.edu/events.

SATURDAY

RED STICK FARMERS MARKET: 8 a.m.-noon, Fifth and Main streets, downtown. Farm-fresh produce, goods, cooking demonstrations. breada.org.

ARBOR DAY AT BURDEN: 9 a.m.-1 p.m., LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden, 4560 Essen Lane. Family event with kiddie tree climbing, Smokey the Bear, scavenger hunt, tree plantings, educational booths and more. Also, tree giveaway by Baton Rouge Green. 

FAMILY-HOUR STARGAZING: 10 a.m., Irene W. Pennington Planetarium at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, 100 S. River Road. Learn about the stars and constellations in the local nighttime sky, followed by an all-ages show. lasm.org.

THE HARLEM GLOBETROTERS 100-YEAR TOUR: 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Raising Cane’s River Center Arena, 275 S. River Road. From gravity-defying dunks to game-changing tricks, experience the fun. $40-$144. https://raisingcanesrivercenter.com.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FEST: 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Highland Road Community Park, 14024 Highland Road. A glowing celebration of warmth, wonder and togetherness featuring a cozy community bonfire, live entertainment and plenty of shine-worthy fun for all ages. Free. brec.org.

BATON ROUGE JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL: “HOLDING LIAT”: 7:30 p.m., Manship Theatre, 100 Lafayette St. $14.50. manshiptheatre.org.

MLK FEST: various locations around the city. Volunteer projects on both days, concluding on Monday with a block party from noon to 3 p.m. at Park Medical Elementary, 2680 Bogan Walk. Organized by The Walls Project. thewallsproject.org/mlkfestbr.
