Warren Haynes took the stage before a national TV audience last night, Jan. 15, with a guest spot on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The Southern blues-jam firebrand’s appearance on CBS’ late-night news talk-show summoned support from Louis Cato & The Late Show Band for a three-track introduction to the iconic catalog and his influences. After a searing take on the Allman Brothers Band’s classic “Whipping Post” and his beloved original “Soulshine,” the singer-songwriter and guitarist brought the sentiments of so many peers to the airwaves with a reverent treatment of the Grateful Dead’s “Estimated Prophet,” delivered in honor of the late Bob Weir.

Haynes’ Late Show booking coincided with a recent flurry of activity. Earlier this week, he shared the red-hot, soul-rending blues cry “Desiree,” released as part of the Landman soundtrack; On Landman – Songs From and Inspired by the Paramount+ Original Series (Volume II), he joins other country and Americana luminaries like the Red Clay Strays, Colter Wall, Lee Ann Womack, Shaboozey with BigXthaPlug and Whiskey Myers to evoke the West Texas oilfield intrigue of the Billy Bob Thornton-led program.

Independently, Haynes is gearing up to reissue a newly remixed and remastered edition of his debut studio album, Tales of Ordinary Madness, on Jan. 30 via Megaforce Records. With producer Chuck Leavell, Haynes swirled his love for psychedelic rock, electric blues and Southern soul into a fiery and impactful sound on his 1993 release, defining the singular fusion he’s followed to countless celebrated offerings since. After introducing the revisited version with album opener “Fire in the Kitchen” in November, Haynes shared the second single, “I’ll Be The One,” last Friday.
