Jenna Bush Hager, “Today” show host and daughter of former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, is turning heads with her announcement of a new role that she has stepped into.
During the episode of “Today” that aired on Jan. 14, the 44-year-old mother of three confirmed her involvement with a new mystery drama series called, “Protection” from creator Josh Safran and Hager that was greenlit by NBC, according to the network.
“Who knew I would ever do something like this, ladies and gentlemen?” she announced to viewers. “We have been working on this for a while, but we are working on a show called ‘Protection’ along with Josh Safran and my colleague Ben Spector.”
According to the outlet’s description of the show, the new drama is centered on a U.S. Marshal who “falls in the line of duty” and “a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents becomes the target of a mysterious assassin.”
She also shared the news on her Instagram Stories with a screenshot of Deadline’s coverage of the show.
“What a day!!!” she wrote in the caption, tagging Safran.
Though she’s set to executive produce the series, right now, it’s uncertain if her new role will impact her work on “Today.”
Hager hosts the fourth hour of “Today” on the new show “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.”
For almost a year, she hosted the show by herself while NBC searched for a replacement after Hoda Kotb retired from the co-host position last January. Just last month, Sheinelle Jones stepped into the role as co-host of the show, alongside Hager.
