‘Pizza Movie’ starring Stranger Things’ star Gaten Matarazzo set for SXSW premiere
A new movie filmed in Syracuse and starring Stranger Things actor Gaten Matarazzo is heading for a major festival debut.
Pizza Movie produced by American High will premiere at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas running March 12–18, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film has been selected for the festival’s “Narrative Spotlight” section.
The comedy stars Matarazzo alongside Sean Giambrone (The Goldbergs) and follows a group of college students whose late-night pizza run turns chaotic when they realise they are extremely high on a homemade drug.
What should be a simple trip to their dorm lobby becomes a bizarre and reality-bending adventure.
The film is co-written and co-directed by former Saturday Night Live writers Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher.
It is produced by Jeremy Garelick, Will Helps and Molle DeBartolo under the Liverpool-based production company American High.
Filming took place in and around Syracuse last spring.
The cast also includes Lulu Wilson, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Sarah Sherman, Marcus Scribner and Justin Cooley.
The movie previously went by the working title The Untitled BriTANicK Pizza Movie.
Garelick joked online that SXSW “finally forced us to make a decision” adding, “Hope you’re not lactose intolerant, because THE PIZZA MOVIE is heading to Austin.”
Following its festival run Pizza Movie is expected to stream on Hulu under American High’s deal with the platform.
