Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#164)

If you only ever interact with one thing Saving Country Music does, it should be this playlist. The articles are too long and too opinionated? Don’t have the time? This playlist boils everything down to direct suggestions of who you should listen to, and what you might be missing.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.

Newest Additions:

Jamey Johnson, Ronnie Dunn – “Never Gonna Be” – This is a very interesting song written by Ronnie Dunn (with Terry McBride) many years ago inspired by Jamey Johnson. In the song, the “never gonna be” never really makes it like Jamey Johnson did, so there is a bit of irony behind it. But it does tell a common story in country music about the broken dreams of Nashville.

Brennen Leigh – “Tell Me” – Taking inspiration from the past greats of country songwriting like Cindy Walker, Brennen Leigh presents a perfect specimen of how some of the most simple sentiments and ideas can resonate so deeply when married with country music. “Tell Me” says so much about a fraying relationship without directly addressing it.

Jack Blocker – “If Heaven Looks Like Arkansas” – Jack Blocker has announced his presence in country music in a big way with his debut album The Land On Most High. This song showcases his intricate and passionate writing evoking geography, along with his character and contour-filled voice that immediately compels an audience.

Jess Jocoy – “Cul-De-Sac Kid” – Jess Jacoy’s songwriting is too good to remain in the shadows. She takes her frustration with trying to find a voice in the country music landscape and turns it into an inspired song delving into the theme of perspective, and how country music needs good country songs, even from cul-de-sac kids.

Luke Bell – “The King Is Back” – The King is Back indeed, and this cocksure anthem for the dearly departed Luke Bell gets you revved up for the 28-song release of the unreleased material from his catalog coming on November 7th. This is the title track of the album.

Trace Nixon – “Ready For The Takin’ (When You Are)” – Virginia native Trace Nixon gets his first of what might be many mentions on Saving Country Music with this great traditional country song. “It’s not a full-fledged cheatin’ song,” he says. “But it really wants to be.”

Sachin and the Porch – “Cicadas”
– This Austin-based band has just released a 3-song EP called Denied lashing out at the crumbling healthcare system in America. “Cicadas” isn’t exactly about that, but it’s an excellent country track with the sound of the seasonal insects making a perfect setting.

Jake Worthington – Drownin’ In Whiskey” – Jake Worthington’s new album When I Write The Song is an excellent specimen of traditional country music. And though there are some fun moments evoke ’90s country nostalgia, it’s really the sad bastard moments like “Drownin’ In Whiskey” that leave the greatest impact.
