The Reading Royals made two transactions on Sunday afternoon as they claimed a player off waivers, and another one was called up to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
James Marooney Claimed Off Waivers
The Reading Royals have claimed defenseman James Marooney off waivers from the Maine Mariners. Marooney, 26, had two goals and three assists for five points in 21 games with Maine this season. He added a goal in 22 games with the Mariners last season after putting up four assists with the Adirondack Thunder in his first 28 career games.
Prior to going pro, he had a goal and 19 assists for 20 points in 95 games at Ohio State University. The Chaska, Minnesota native spent his junior career in the USHL with the Waterloo Black Hawks. During his time with the Black Hawks, he had six goals and 29 assists for 35 points in 97 games. He would also see action in 11 USHL playoff games.
Hunter Johannes Called Up To Lehigh Valley
Forward Hunter Johannes has been called up to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Johannes, 27, began the season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates, where he put up a goal and seven assists for eight points in 17 games. Since being traded to Reading, he’s put up seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 14 games.
The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native spent the beginning of his career in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins. In 57 games with the Griffins, he had two goals and two assists for four points, while also seeing action in one Calder Cup Playoff game. Johannes also played four games with the Toledo Walleye, where he put up two goals and three assists for five points in four games.
