After an epic Movie Week which featured routines from blockbusters such as Avatar, Wicked: For Good and Superman, another celebrity was sent home from the competition
Brian Kennedy became the second celebrity to be eliminated from Dancing With The Stars on Sunday night.
After dancing to Phantom of the Opera on this week’s special Movie Night theme, the singer received the lowest combined scores from the judges and viewers.
Kicking off the show, Olympic medal winning rower and doctor Philip Doyle and Daniela Roze danced a Paso Doble to the ‘Superman Theme’ by John Williams from the movie Superman .
They scored 29 points.
Head judge Oti Mabuse said: “You keep knocking it out of the park, that was so good. What a way to open the show!”
Singer-songwriter Tolü Makay and Maciej Zięba danced a Cha-Cha-Cha to ‘Car Wash’ by Christina Aguilera featuring Missy Elliott, from Shark Tale.
They earned 26 points as Arthur Gourounlian gushed: “That was absolutely fabulous! You had the sparkle, the confidence – you were in your bubble.”
Singer Brian Kennedy and James Cutler were up next and danced the Paso Doble to ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ by Michael Ball, scoring 15 points from the judges.
Brian Redmond told them: “No doubt about it, it definitely needs a bit more technical input. However, there’s only one person in this cast who could’ve taken on a character as big as that, and that’s you.”
Rose of Tralee Katelyn Cummins and Leonardo Lini took on an American Smooth to ‘Whistle While You Work’ by Rachel Zegler from Snow White .
They scored 35 points as Karen Byrne said: “This is exactly what Movie Night is all about. I was just sitting back and enjoying it.”
Nationwide presenter Anne Cassin & Robert Rowiński performed Cha-Cha-Cha to ‘Fame’ by Irene Cara from the movie of the same name, earning a total of 18 points .
“I thought you started out so strong but I want you to work on consistency. It started out so well but mid way in, it fell in and out at times,” Oti said.
Fair City star Stephanie Kelly and Ervinas Merfeldas followed this with a Quickstep routine to ‘You’re the One That I Want’ by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John from the movie Grease.
They scored 27 points. Arthur said: “You were completely in your element. This is the first time I’ve seen you most at ease on the dance floor.”
After finding themselves near the bottom of the leader board last week, podcaster Amber Wilson and Alex Vladimirov danced the Contemporary Ballroom to ‘For Good’ by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, from the movie Wicked: For Good .
Scoring 22 points, Brian told them: “You’re getting there, it’s getting better, but you need to become more independent.”
The Traitors Ireland star Paudie Moloney and Laura Nolan were up next to perform a Charleston to ‘Meet The Flintstones’ by Postmodern Jukebox from the The Flintstones .
They earned 16 points as Karen said: “Charleston for me is the perfect dance for you to show how fun you are. There were a few dodgy swivels, but it was bags of fun.”
Eurovision legend Niamh Kavanagh and Stephen Vincent danced a Foxtrot to ‘Destination Anywhere’ from The Commitments – meaning Niamh danced to her own vocals .
With a total of 23 points, Oti praised: “You are tuning in to a ballroom diva. The footwork was impeccable, but the upper body needs to look a little bit more competitive.”
Ireland AM presenter Eric Roberts and Arianna Favaro danced a Samba to ‘Cuban Pete’ by Jim Carey, from The Mask.
They scored 31 points. Arthur said: “Every move was exaggerated in the best possible way. You didn’t just dance, you gave us a moment.”
Closing the show was Apprentice UK star Jordan Dargan and his partner Rebecca Scott. They performed a Contemporary Ballroom to ‘Pandora’ by James Horner from Avatar and scored 34 points.
Brian said: “In the ballroom part, you get a bit high in the shoulders, but overall a really nice performance.”
