Matt Damon makes bold statement against Oscar campaigns
Matt Damon has recently expressed his disappointment with Oscar campaigning for movies.
The Martian star admitted he “100%” doesn’t mind missing out an “award season” while speaking on Netflix’s Skip Intro podcast.
Matt revealed he doesn’t understand the concept of campaigning for movies to be recognised.
“It seems completely backwards to me. It’s just odd,” said the 55-year-old.
Jason Bourne actor noted that it might be “good for movies, just having it all out there and gets the culture thinking and talking about movies”.
Interestingly, Matt noted that with these campaigns during award season, people would know about a certain movie amid “so much noise”.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Bourne Identity actor shared that he would not go on the campaign trail during the 2025-2026 season as the star of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey movie.
When asked about working on the upcoming Greek epic, Matt replied that he was “still kind of unpacking” the experience and noted it had “a profound effect” on him.
“Doing The Odyssey this last year, it felt like my one chance in my life to make a David Lean movie,” he stated.
Matt added, “That I was making the last big movie on film that I was ever going to get to make.”
