Back in January, Death Cab For Cutie announced that after two decades and six albums with Atlantic, the band was leaving the majors and signing with the esteemed mega-indie ANTI- Records. Now when know when ANTI- will be releasing a new Death Cab album. I Built You A Tower is dropping in June, preceded today by a video for lead single “Riptides.”

Death Cab recorded I Built You A Tower over three weeks with veteran producer John Congleton at his Los Angeles recording studio Animal Rites, though members also tracked a few parts at their homes in Seattle, Bellingham, Los Angeles, and Portland. “Riptides” boasts some of Congleton’s signature edge, especially the way Nick Harmer’s bass bombs into the mix. “I’m too tired to stop/ I can’t bring you up to speed,” Benjamin Gibbard sings. “There’s too many riptides in this ocean to proceed.”

Per Gibbard, “‘Riptides’ is about the challenge of dealing with personal struggles as the world around us experiences tragedy and loss on an unfathomable scale. And how when these two elements intertwine themselves in our psyches, it feels utterly paralyzing.” Watch Jason Lester’s video for the song below.

TRACKLIST:
01 “Full Of Stars”
02 “Punching The Flowers”
03 “Pep Talk”
04 “I Built You A Tower (a)”
05 “Envy The Birds”
06 “Stone Over Water”
07 “How Heavenly A State”
08 “Trap Door”
09 “Riptides”
10 “The Flavor Of Metal”
11 “I Built You A Tower (b)”

I Built You A Tower is out 6/5 on ANTI-. Pre-order it here.
