By being named one of the nominees for Best Picture at the 2026 Academy Awards ceremony, “F1: The Movie” has earned a rare distinction in the 21st century.
“F1” earned more than $630 million, making it one of the top 10-grossing films of 2025, according to Box Office Mojo. It is the only one of the top-grossing movies to also earn one of the 10 Best Picture nods this year.
Portions of the film were shot in the Daytona Beach area, including at the Rolex 24 endurance race at Daytona International Speedway.

Another key sequence, shot in January 2024, takes place at the former Pappas Drive-In & Family Restaurant and adjacent Christina’s Coin Laundry in New Smyrna Beach. Pappas.

Stars Brad Pitt (“Fight Club”) and Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”) are featured in the scene, and were ogled by Volusia County film fans in January 2024 when shooting took place in New Smyrna Beach.
Pappas was destroyed by fire just two months later.
The No. 120 Porsche of Wright Motorsports, at the 2024 Rolex 24, where it was employed as a “co-star” in the current F1 racing movie. In the film, Brad Pitt’s character drives the car to the lead overnight.
“(The Daytona scene) sets the tone of the movie,” Andrew Booth, communications director for the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, said at a special screening of “F1” in Daytona Beach last June.
The movie was directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by action film specialist Jerry Bruckheimer, the team behind “Top Gun: Maverick,” another top-grosser that was recognized with a Best Picture nod.
When will the 2026 Academy Awards be held?
The 98th Academy Awards will be on Sunday, March 16, televised on ABC and streamed on Hulu.
“F1: The Movie” earned three Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing.
