St. Johns County dedicates a memorial to its fallen firefighters
St. Johns County now has a memorial to local firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
The St. Johns County Commission unanimously approved the commercial rezoning for Nothing Putt Fun & Games, an indoor‑outdoor mini‑golf and entertainment venue at 7250 and 7280 U.S. 1 N., almost 3.5 miles south of International Golf Parkway.
Spearheaded by applicant Barrett Tennant and designed by St. Augustine’s Gulfstream Design Group, the proposal calls for a one‑story, approximately 16,000‑square‑foot indoor entertainment facility, an 18-hole mini golf course, arcade games, food trucks, TVs and a “19th hole” bar.
The outdoor miniature golf course will cover approximately 22,000‑square‑feet with landscaping filled with the Sunshine State’s native vegetation and informational signage that explains the history of the local flora.
Tennant, who appeared at the County Commission meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20, with his young son, said the entire family was excited to create a family‑run small business that brings “joy, activity and connection to the community.”
“We appreciate the unanimous vote. It was a huge win for us, the county and Gulfstream,” he said in a news release.
Matt Lahti, Gulfstream Design Group’s president, added, “I’m thrilled to help bring a place to St. Johns County where people of all ages can laugh, play and make memories together,” he said.
Tennant said he looked forward to working hand in hand with Gulfstream it finalizes the engineering design and permitting.
Commissioner Christian Whitehurst described the project as ideal, something that residents have requested for years.
“The decision to approve was made easier by the fact that this parcel was already zoned for development,” he told the St. Augustine Record via email. “The indoor‑outdoor mini‑golf and entertainment venue will be something families will be enjoying for a long time.”
Commissioner Ann Taylor said that with the area’s commercial zoning already in place, the single-story entertainment venue added value to the community without adding traffic congestion.
“The space gives families something to do locally, while requiring the developer to invest in trees and greenery to improve the area’s footprint,” she said via email.
Additional permits include an environmental resource permit from the St. Johns River Water Management District, a commercial site permit with St. Johns County and the applicable driveway, drainage and utility permitting with the Florida Department of Transportation.
