Dax Shepard Reveals He Told His Daughter He’d Pay To Freeze Her Eggs On His Podcast

The actor turned podcast host has been in the headlines a lot recently, especially since his popular podcast, Armchair Expert, was nominated for the first-ever Best Podcast award at the Emmys. Although he didn’t win it, his episodes are continuing to draw attention, yet one of his most recent ones is not sitting right with numerous listeners.

During an episode released on January 5th, the actor began talking about his family, more specifically his 11-year-old daughter, Delta, whom he raises alongside his wife, Kristen Bell. He spoke about how the youngest of his two children approached him and told him about how she wants to be a mom when she grows up.

“Delty was saying how she can’t wait to have a baby,” he recalled.

While it first sounded like a wholesome conversation between a father and daughter who were looking forward to her future, things quickly got personal, and their talk became strange in the eyes of viewers.

“She’s saying she wants to have a baby, and I said, ‘When do you think you’ll have your first child? When you turn 18?” he explained. “I want to be supportive of whatever. I don’t want to plant any seeds that I’d be judgmental or whatever.”

When his daughter stated she didn’t want to become a mother at 18 years old, the dad-of-two then explained how he figured she wouldn’t start having children until she was in her 30s and 40s, but that she’s more thinking “mid-20s,” and wondered if she would need some type of assistance.

“I said, ‘If you want to, we’ll freeze your eggs when you’re 18. I’ll pay for you to get your eggs frozen so you don’t have to think about that,'” he added. “Acknowledging all luck and privilege, obviously, this isn’t an option for most people. But I think…it would make the most sense. I think they’re going to be wrestling with the same thing every woman is. You’re gonna want to do your career.”

Fans Slam Dax For His Statements On Social Media

Although the 51-year-old seemingly thought the conversation between him and his daughter would be interesting or informative for his listeners and other internet users, they did not go over well online, and many people felt that it was something better kept off the air.

On social media platforms like Reddit, users began slamming the actor, especially since this isn’t the first time some of his “strange” podcast comments have stirred up controversy.

“Why was this something he needed to make public?” asked a user. “I hope the kid doesn’t get bullied for it.”

The sentiment itself is nice, but the girl is eleven,” added another. “At that age, motherhood is such an abstract concept, as well it should be. Leave it there, leave it be!”

“Every time I see a new headline about this guy, it’s somehow creepier than the last,” commented a user.

One user called the conversation “a weird thing to talk about with the media,” and others went as far as to write that it was “disgusting” of him to share it with the world.
