Taylor Swift eyes eighth number one single with new Toy Story theme – Music News

South Arcade release new song ‘DEADMEAT’

HARDY teamed up with fellow country superstars Morgan Wallen, Eric Church and Tim McGraw for a powerful new track, “McArthur.” The song doesn’t just tell a story; it asks listeners to reflect on their own.

“‘McArthur’ is a very special one,” HARDY shared in a statement. “It came together pretty fast. I know I wrote the song, but I also feel like, how did I end up on this song? It’s a lineup of absolute legends.”

HARDY co-wrote “McArthur” alongside Jameson Rogers, Josh Thompson, and Chase McGill, while Jay Joyce served as producer. “McArthur” finds the superstar quartet unveiling a storyline across four generations of a single family that is bound together by the land they share, their bloodline, and the paths they’ve chosen.

McGraw opens the track as John McArthur—a hardworking farmer who spends his life toiling the land and providing for his family. His verse paints a picture of grit and dedication, ending with the idea that even after death, his spirit remains.

“My name’s John McArthur, and I work this dirt/ ‘Til they lay me down in it in my one good shirt/ I kept my family fed with a mule and a plow/ I’m a whisper in the wind through the pine trees now,” he sings before Church echoes with his portrayal of Junior McArthur, a man who dies in the Vietnam War.

Church’s story weaves heartbreak and sacrifice into the song lyrics, leaving listeners with a reminder that life can be cut short, but legacy can live on. For his verse, he never meets his son, but his bloodline carries on.

“I’m Junior McArthur, and I join my old man/ By way of a bullet in Vietnam/ Left behind my woman and my boy named Jones/ Never got to meet him, but he’s carrying on,” Church croons his lines on the track.

Within each verse, the track introduces a new character of the McArthur family, with Jones and Hunter following for the final two verses as they explore the passage of time and share how it can shape a person’s values and priorities, but it never erases the past. From the beginning lyrics, the land isn’t just a property but a part of who they are.

HARDY’s verse focuses on Jones McArthur, who tries to teach his son the value of hard work and the importance of family history. However, in this moment, tensions arise as he notices his son’s struggle choosing between tradition and money. Jones worries that everything he believes in could be sold or forgotten.

“I’m Jones McArthur, and I tried like hell/ To teach my son why a man don’t sell/ But he came home from college seeing dollar signs/ Didn’t wanna go to work; just wanted me to die,” HARDY sings throughout the third verse.

Finally, Hunter McArthur, portrayed by Wallen, is faced with the biggest decision, which is whether or not to sell the land. While the deal looks good, “a whisper in the pines” warns him not to forget where he came from.

“I’m Hunter McArthur, and the deal looks good/ In eighteen months this’ll be a neighborhood/ I got a million-dollar line I can sign my name on/ But there’s a whisper in the pines that’s tellin’ me don’t,” he sings.

During the song, the stars come together during the chorus as the four McArthurs. They ask the same question: “when you pass on, what you gonna pass down?” The question serves as a significant reminder to listeners that time comes for everyone, but what truly matters is what we leave behind.

“My bloodline that bled on this ground/ Soon we’ll all find that’s where we’re bound/ And Father Time don’t leave anyone out/ When you pass on, what you gonna pass down?”

“McArthur” follows the release of HARDY’s latest album, COUNTRY! COUNTRY!, which features his multi-week chart-topper “Favorite Country Song” and the fan-favorite track, “Bottomland,” and the deluxe edition of the project, COUNTRY! COUNTRY! COUNTRY!.

HARDY will soon take his new album on the road on THE COUNTRY! COUNTRY! TOUR!, which will visit arenas and amphitheaters across Canada and the United States. Cameron Whitcomb, Tucker Wetmore, Mitchell Tenpenny, Muscadine Bloodline, Jake Worthington, and McCoy Moore will join the tour for select dates.
