VERMILLION, S.D. — Parkston/Ethan/Hanson/Mount Vernon gymnastics standout Addison Duba and her team made program history on Thursday, with Duba scoring the first perfect 10 on record for the Royals at the Vermillion Invitational.
Duba, an eighth-grader, scored 10.0 on floor exercise to win the event. It is the first perfect 10 routine scored in South Dakota high school gymnastics this season.
The Royals effort also broke the program team scoring record with a score of 141.900, which was more than seven points ahead of second-place Chamberlain (134.700). PEHMV’s previous team best was 141.500 from 2024.
Chamberlain’s Kylah Biggins won the all-around title with a career-best score of 37.350, with event titles in the vault, bars and beam. Duba was second with an all-around score of 36.800, followed by teammates Claire Sommer (35.250) and Piper Reichert (35.200) in third and fourth in the all-around.
Biggins won the vault with the 9.550, while Duba was second (9.150), PEHMV’s Piper Reichert was third (9.100) and Wagner/Bon Homme’s Aubry Williams and PEHMV’s Lily Bahmuller tied for fourth (9.050).
On bars, Biggins won the event (8.650), followed by Duba (8.550), Sommer (8.450) and Bahmuller in fifth place (8.350). Biggins’ winning beam score was 9.450, followed by Duba (9.100), Reichert (8.650) and Sommer in fifth (8.550), with Kimball/White Lake’s Bridget Thomas in fourth (8.600).
After Duba’s 10, Biggins posted a season-best 9.700 score for second place on floor. Thomas also landed in the top-five with a 9.300 score, good for fourth place and Williams and Sommer tied for fifth place at 9.25.
The meet was the final tuneup before all five teams in action return to Vermillion on Friday, Feb. 6, for the Region 2A state-qualifying meet at 5 p.m.
