If so, well, a little creature named Phil may just make your day. Groundhog Day is Monday, and the furriest forecaster will soon tell Americans whether we have six more weeks of winter or an early spring.

How to watch Ohio’s Buckeye Chuck on Groundhog Day
Ohio’s groundhog, Buckeye Chuck, will also make his prediction Feb. 2, live from the Marion County Fairgrounds Colosseum starting at 7 a.m.
It will be streamed on the Buckeye Chuck fan Facebook page, according to 1490 WMRN-AM in Marion.

In theory, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, we can expect six more weeks of winter weather. If Phil doesn’t see his shadow, we can expect an early spring.
What is Groundhog Day?
Groundhog Day is rooted in the Christian holiday Candlemas, the midway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. During Candlemas, Christians would light candles to predict how long winter would last.
The first official Groundhog Day was held Feb. 2, 1887, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. According to History.com, we can thank newspaper editor Clymer Freas for the special day, as he and a group of groundhog hunters declared a groundhog from the town the official predictor.
Today, the ceremony is organized by the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, which also cares for the groundhog year-round.
How accurate is Phil on Groundhog Day? What about Buckeye Chuck?
Unfortunately for Punxsutawney Phil fans and truthers, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the groundhog has “no predictive skill.” He has only gotten it right about 35% of the time over the past 20 or so years, a 2025 NOAA report stated.
Buckeye Chuck, however, has been right 55% of the time.
