Having already supported household names like The Wombats on their 2025 tour, Florentenes are beginning to build a name for themselves in their own right, as proved with their hard-hitting new single ‘Madeline’.
Liam Fiddy’s drums open up the track superbly; from that first hit of the snare, you know you’re in for a treat. The song just builds from there. Jumping from strength to strength until the whirlwind of the song eventually reaches its end, with just Luke Holding’s blistering guitars to lead listeners out.
‘Madeline’ pushes the boundaries of what the band can achieve. William Train Smith’s vocals are strong, and his penmanship is even stronger. With lyrics such as “If we run there, will we ever return? / Yo don’t know where you belong / so if we’re out tonight I’ll pull you towards me”, it talks about the freedom of living in the moment, doing things just because you can.
It would be remiss to not mention Harry Stubbs’ bass because it is the backbone for the entire track. Laying down sweltering riffs, it’s the understated hero of this track. Complementing the rest of the band perfectly, it’s the sonic cohesion of the quartet that truly gives ‘Madeline’ its charm.
Despite only being teenagers, they’ve already managed to develop a sound that’s wiser beyond their years. With similarities to indie-rock legends including Arctic Monkeys and Basht., it’s no wonder that the Bolton-based lads are already managing to gain millions of views across their social media pages.
Anthemic and thrilling, ‘Madeline’ proves why you should be keeping an eye on Florentenes as these emerging stars are bound to go far.
