When news broke that Bruce Willis had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia two years ago, the world was stunned as many found it hard to accept that Hollywood’s ultimate action star was facing such a battle.
While fans globally have witnessed social media glimpses of Bruce alongside his ex-wife Demi Moore and children from both marriages appearing more content than ever, his current wife Emma Heming Willis reveals that the kids deeply miss their dad.
Emma faced criticism after it was disclosed that she had decided to buy a second residence for Bruce, where he gets 24-hour assistance from professional caregivers.
The arrangement also guarantees that their two daughters’ emotional health is properly maintained.
Emma shared insights about the family’s adjusted reality.
Bruce’s current spouse revealed: “When they come home from school, Mabel and Evelyn pile into the house and sit on their father’s lap, clambering over him, holding their faces against his, running around the garden as he watches from his chair.”
She added to The Times: “You can see the tenderness of it. The girls don’t need him to be this or do that. They have really adapted to his disease, and they know how to move around him. It’s beautiful, but it’s hard for them. They miss him.”
The 70-year-old performer, who gained fame through his high-octane blockbusters, including his Die Hard franchise, wed Emma in 2009, nine years following his split from fellow Hollywood icon Demi Moore.

Since their lives were turned upside down by Bruce’s diagnosis, the mother of two has worked tirelessly to leverage her platform for raising awareness about the brain condition.
Beyond public speaking events, she has also pursued writing, penning a book called The Unexpected Journey. The publication serves as a comprehensive resource for caregivers on discussing the disease with children and protecting their own physical and mental well-being.
She continued, “Bruce and I now have our own language, our own way of being with each other. It’s just about sitting with him, walking with him, listening to him as he tries to verbalise in his own language, hearing him, validating him. You know.”
However, despite her unwavering resolve to maintain normalcy for her kids, it appears her transformed lifestyle continues to take an emotional toll on her.
During the interview, Emma fights back tears while explaining, “It’s hard. FTD is just an unkind disease – it constantly takes. Even when you think it can’t take any more, it takes a little more.”
She concluded: “Bruce’s disease, I believe, has given him this one grace: to not know what FTD is.”
