A lively new music group has been given a boost thanks to a donation.
Members of South Holland District Council have supported The All Included Music Project (AIMP) – a new music group destined to create an accessible and inclusive environment for everyone to explore, create and enjoy music – with an £875 grant.
AIMP was founded last year by Weston resident Chris Dark after an accident.
Chris found comfort in his love for music and has been able to connect with others at the group.
With help from Coun Andrew Woolf, the council was able to offer £875 to help kickstart AIMP.
The group now has over 200 members and holds regular Open Mic Nights at The Royal Mailcart in Spalding.
At a recent AIMP meeting, it was clear how successful the group had been in progressing.
Coun Woolf said: “I knew Chris before his accident, a very active man.”
He has thanked Chris for his voluntary litter-picking work around Weston and local areas.
“After hearing Chris’s story and how he wanted to see if people also found sanctuary in music, I was more than happy to help.
“I thank Councillors Mark Le Sage, David Ashby, Gary Taylor, Allan Beal, Sam Chauhan, Anthony Casson and Nanette Chapman for supporting AIMP through their ward budgets.”
Chris made an emotional speech, commenting that “from the hardest part of my life came AIMP.”
He stated that AIMP has a number of future plans, including a children’s AIMP, a neurodiverse festival, music lessons, family open mics and continuing to support local grass root bands.
