Fans of Wisconsin musician Genevieve Heyward will have to wait a few weeks to hear her again on “American Idol.”
Heyward, who grew up in Lake Geneva before her family moved to Door County, sang Heart’s “Magic Man” during the first night of auditions on the Season 24 premiere of the ABC singing competition Jan. 26. Judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan were all impressed enough for her to receive her golden ticket and move on to Hollywood Week.
But first … more auditions from the other hopefuls.
The next three episodes Feb. 2, 9 and 16 on ABC will be a continuation of the auditions filmed last fall in front of the judges at Belmont University in Nashville.
“Idol’s” signature Hollywood Week moves from Hollywood to Nashville for the first time. Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover, a single-round competition this season instead of the multiple rounds in the past, will air Feb. 23 and March 2.
Heyward will next compete on one of those episodes, but it is not known which one.
After Hollywood Week, the next stop is Hawaii
Should she be among the 30 contestants to make it through Hollywood Week, the next stop is a new round of competition airing March 9 called the Ohana Round. Filmed at Aluna, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, singers will perform for “industry tastemakers” (performers, writers, social media personalities, announcers) their peers, family members and friends, according to a news release by ABC.
Only 20 contestants will advance from the Ohana Round to the next round of competition at Aluna on March 16 and 23.
Brad Paisley and Keke Palmer announced on social media Jan. 29 they will be the celebrity mentors at Aluna.
‘Pickle Girl’ has her T-shirts from ‘American Idol’ for sale
In addition to impressing the “Idol” judges with her voice, Heyward also earned a nickname after Underwood jotted down “Pickle Girl” by her name in her notes. Heyward, who talked about her love of pickles on the show, had her friends and family decked out in her pickle T-shirts for the audition.
Those T-shirts are available for pre-order ($40) on her website at genevieveheyward.com. After the first batch sold out, a new supply is expected by the end of February, according to the website.
Two-hour episodes of “American Idol” air at 7 p.m. Mondays on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu.
