The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra is presenting a family-friendly concert, “Spaceship Earth,” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, at the Plymouth South High School Performing Arts Center, 490 Long Pond Road, according to a community announcement.

The concert will feature a mix of orchestral and sci-fi music, as well as a live storybook performance celebrating science, music and perseverance. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under.

Conducted by Steven Karidoyanes, the orchestra will perform Holst’s “Jupiter” from “The Planets,” music from “Star Trek: Into Darkness” by Michael Giacchino and “Adventures on Earth” from “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” by John Williams, according to the announcement.

A highlight of the concert will be a “book-in-concert” presentation of “The Astronaut with a Song for the Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa,” by Julia Finley Mosca, according to the announcement. Annabelle Fuller, a sixth-grader from Kingston Intermediate School, will read the story live on stage while the orchestra performs an accompaniment arranged by Karidoyanes, which includes music from Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” and piano music by Mozart.

Families are encouraged to arrive early for a pre-concert instrument demonstration at 2 p.m. in the Plymouth South High School cafeteria, free for ticket holders, where young audience members can meet musicians, explore orchestral instruments and learn how sound, storytelling and imagination come together.

The concert is presented in partnership with Orchestras Feeding America, according to the announcement. Audience members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to support the South Shore Community Action Council’s Food Distribution Center.

“This concert is about curiosity, imagination and discovery,” Karidoyanes said in a statement. “It’s designed to spark wonder — whether you’re a lifelong music lover, a sci-fi fan or a child hearing an orchestra live for the very first time.”
