WYNNE — Wynne FarmFest officials are hoping to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
FarmFest was created in 1976 to celebrate America’s Bicentennial. It has been held ever since and has continued to evolve with the event moving from its longtime home in downtown Wynne to the Wynne Sports Complex several years ago.
Lexie Gahr of the Cross County Chamber of Commerce, which organizes FarmFest, said they actually ran out of parking during last year’s event. Events were held throughout the week, connecting the Delta Smoke barbecue contest with FarmFest.
There will not be a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event this year. However, officials are still discussing ideas concerning keeping barbecue a part of the event.
Gahr said the music portion of FarmFest will be expanding. There will be four nights of music this year, including gospel, country, rock and roll, and R&B.
This year’s FarmFest will be held in late May at the Wynne Sports Complex.
